"In describing meth, we must be extremely careful not to paint a picture so bleak that it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Each time someone tries to scare kids away from meth by saying "if you become addicted you will never fully recover," it's a kick in the teeth for people trying to recover. It's also one of hundreds of so-called "facts" about meth that are simply not true.

"Thank you for showing the reality of this drug. It's nice to see there's a least one organization that has taken the "high road," and not put "The Faces Of Meth" on their site. Those people have been used as poster-children long enough."

In every jurisdiction where meth has gotten a foot-hold, it accounts for the vast majority of crime, child protection services, court time and incarceration numbers.
In many areas, like San Juan County New Mexico, 90% of the violent crime is attributed to meth.

In most regions of North America, it costs less to pay for someone's tuition to Harvard or Yale with a full course load than to send them to jail or prison.
And a typical course of drug or alcohol treatment in both Canada and the U.S. is a tiny fraction of that.

"Not every alcoholic is laying in the gutter, and not every meth addict has their teeth falling out and jib sores all over their face. People like me and lots of people I knew were doing meth for years and we had jobs and businesses. No one knew. Some of my friends suspected I had an eating disorder, but none of them thought I was a meth addict.
For addicts like me, your life might be a total shambles behind closed doors, but outwardly, you look fairly normal. That's the thing with meth, it's a little different for everybody."

It's about time people saw the reality of this drug instead of the "shock" pictures that everyone just exploits for their "scare" value.
I commend you for taking this approach and quite frankly, I've not seen another site on the internet that comes even close to yours on this topic. Please keep up the fantastic work."

These Are The Other Faces Of Meth
Methamphetamine goes way beyond the desperate faces that are shown on so many sites - poor souls with their eyes bugging out, faces and arms riddled with "jib sores." The truth is, that's just one type of meth victim - there are many more. And that's because methamphetamine eats into every level and corner of society - from the very bottom, to the very top. For the most part, these aren't bad people - they're just people who got seduced by a very bad thing.
.
Are we over-stating the case? Well....you decide. And prepare yourself - this is a long list and it's getting longer.

So Are These "Faces Of Meth" Not Dramatic Enough?
.
Doctors, dentists, lawyers, judges, school principals, teachers, town supervisors, aldermen, mayors, police chiefs, bank managers, grandmothers, drug counselors? Not your typical "line-up" is it? But we didn't put this list together to embarrass, indict, or smear any person or occupation and all of the people listed who haven't been found guilty are presumed innocent until proven guilty. But it makes a point. And at the risk of repetition, the point is this:
.
Methamphetamine use goes far deeper into society than poor souls with sores all over their face and hollowed out cheeks commonly known as "The Faces Of Meth." The hundreds of millions of dollars in meth sales are not generated solely by "low-bottom" meth addicts - it's mathematically impossible. The biggest meth problem we have in North America are the meth users you can't see, and like most meth users, they don't show up on surveys that presuppose someone to voluntarily admit to using one of the most negatively stigmatized drugs in history.
.
And the list above illustrates two other things. Under the right circumstances, and given enough time, this drug can nail anyone. And that's the lesson for kids. Many of these people had the world in the palm of their hands and they lost it because they believed that methamphetamine would solve a problem for them that they didn''t know how to solve themselves and didn't know how to ask for help.
.
And the other thing the above list illustrates is that if you have enough money or the right connections, even when you're busted for meth, you won't necessarily become one of the "Faces Of Meth." At least we hope not, because as we've said, the original people who were set up to become "The Faces Of Meth" have paid their debt to society and deserve to be left alone to get on with their lives.
