Unfortunately, even when you try to live a "picture-perfect" life, lousy things happen. And people who build quality lives don't avoid negative events, they change their meaning. For example, you can put a snake in front of two people - one will freak out and one couldn't care less. They're both seeing the same snake, but they're having two completely different reactions. So it's not the snake that's the issue, it's the meaning you attach to the snake. And "reframing" is all about changing the meaning of things in our lives. The difference between people who can move forward despite criticism and negativity, and those who become discouraged and quit is the meaning they attach to criticism and negativity. The difference between someone who can get up and speak in front of two hundred people and someone who almost faints at the idea is not about bravery. It's about meaning. So essentially, "Reframing In Recovery" will show you that although you have limited control over what happens in life, you have unlimited control as to how you feel about it and accordingly, how you respond. It's true when they say that an important part of being clean and sober is about "living life on life's terms." And this program will show you how to do that, even when life throws some lousy "terms" at you. Some people were lucky enough to make positive reframing a habit when they were very young. Most of us were not so lucky and we have to learn how to do it now. And that's who this program is for.
